Gilroy and Duvall moved in together in Studio City, California, in the early 1990s with a collection of pets including 36 birds, eight dogs, two cats and two goldfish, People reports.
They moved to Texas in 1994 due to a number of factors, including her brother’s health problems, her fatigue in Los Angeles, and the damage to their home after the Northridge earthquake on January 17, 1994.
“It was great, all those years in LA, really fantastic,” Gilroy said The New York Times in April. ‘And when we moved, after the earthquake, it was terrible in Texas.’
Gilroy spoke candidly with the newspaper about Duvall’s mental health struggles over the past decades.
“It went downhill when she became afraid of things, maybe not wanting to work anymore. It’s very hard to pin it down to one thing,” he said. “She became paranoid and just kind of delusional, thinking she was being attacked.”
Gilroy told the newspaper that he was surprised by her controversial appearance on Dr. Phil in 2016. He said he heard about it through “people around town.”
He said of the interview: ‘It didn’t do anything for her. It just put her on the map as a rarity.’
