She’ll look back at that and cringe’: Trump attacks Julia Roberts advert urging women not to tell husbands who they voted for

Donald Trump has criticized Pretty Woman star Julia Roberts for a “cringe-worthy” ad in which she tells women they can “secretly” vote for his rival Kamala Harris.

The Oscar-winning actress narrated a 30-second commercial — likely to be seen by millions before Tuesday’s presidential election — in which two women enter a voting booth, look at each other and then secretly cast their votes for Ms. Harris.

Ms. Roberts says, “In the only place in America where women still have the right to choose, you can vote any way you want, and no one will ever know. Remember, what happens in the booth, stays in the booth.”

As they leave the polling station, a woman’s husband asks, “Did you make the right choice?” to which she replies, “Yes, honey.”

Last night, Trump told Fox News, “I’m so disappointed in Julia Roberts. She’ll look back at it and cringe.

Donald Trump has criticized Julia Roberts for her ‘cringe’ ad urging women not to tell their husbands how they voted

Trump said Ms. Roberts would “look back at that and cringe,” referring to her ad encouraging women to keep their decision to themselves

‘I happen to be married to a rather strong woman. I have surrounded myself with strong women. Can you imagine a woman not telling her husband who she is voting for? Have you ever heard anything like that?

“Even if you’re in a bad relationship, you’re going to tell your husband. That’s a ridiculous ad.’

The ad for the liberal group Vote Common Good provoked an immediate response. Toni Holt Kramer, founder of the Trumpettes, one of the most influential Republican women’s groups in the US, said: ‘Julia Roberts should stick to acting. Why does she think she can talk politics to anyone?

‘How patronizing is it these days to suggest that women need permission to vote differently than their husbands?

‘Women are not stupid. Ms. Roberts is absurdly condescending.”

The effort to convince Republican women to switch their votes to Harris has become a cornerstone of the election.
