A Chinese fashion giant has vowed to invest £12 million to improve standards at its suppliers’ factories after admitting working hours at two locations broke the rules.

Shein said an independent investigation launched after allegations of labor abuse in a recent Channel 4 documentary revealed that workers at two of its Chinese sites were working longer hours than allowed by local regulations.

The staff of one of the factories in Guangzhou worked up to 13 and a half hours a day with only two to three days off per month.

Those at the second location sometimes worked 12.5 hours a day, with no set structure for days off.

Shein has slashed orders from the manufacturers operating the sites by three-quarters and given them a December 31 deadline to adjust their working hours or take possible further action.

The allegations in Untold: Inside The Shein Machine have caused the group to come under heavy fire, with the recently launched licensed collection featuring The Rolling Stones reportedly set to be terminated over the allegations.
