Shawn Mendes appeared to respond to the gay rumors about him in a preview of his upcoming song The Mountain.
Although the official song hasn’t been released yet, the 26-year-old performed the song for his fans at a recent concert date.
‘Some days I change my mind. You can say what you gotta say,” he sang video footage that a fan posted on TikTok.
‘You could say I’m too young. That’s possible, I’m too old. You can say I like girls or boys,” he continued to applause. ‘Whatever suits you.’
Although he has been the subject of wild speculation about his sexuality, Shawn has only publicly dated women, such as Camila Cabello.

Shawn previously flatly denied he was gay in a Snapchat message to his fans in 2016, as he urged them to focus on his work.
“So normally I don’t do this or raise issues, but I was on YouTube watching some of my interviews, and I was scrolling through the comments and noticed a lot of people were saying I was giving them a ‘gay vibe’ ,” he said.
‘First of all, I’m not gay. Second, it shouldn’t make any difference whether I was or not. The focus should be on the music and not on my sexuality.’
Recently, Sabrina Carpenter made headlines with her single Taste, an acid-tongued song said to be aimed at Shawn and Camila.
Sabrina was briefly linked to Shawn in 2023, during one of the gaps in his long-running on-off relationship with Camila.
Shawn and Camila publicly reunited not long after his dating rumors with Sabrina, but have since split again.
Sabrina’s Taste lyrics are addressed to the woman with whom his ex rekindled his old romance, and her message to her love rival is scathing.
“I heard you guys are back together and if that’s true you’re just going to have to taste me when he kisses you,” she taunts the other woman in the chorus.

She delivers the would-be girlfriend scathingly: “Now I’m gone, but you’re still next to me, a degree of separation.”

Shawn and Camila went public as a couple in the summer of 2019 and split in 2021, briefly reuniting last year before splitting after six weeks.
This summer, Shawn released his song Why, Why, Why, about a pregnancy scare that “shook me to my core” — though he declined to name the woman involved.

Earlier in the song, he confesses the regrets he still harbors over the end of a relationship with a woman he never identifies by name.
