Shaun Hampson reveals physical and mental health toll that filming Australian Survivor took on him
He captivated audiences as a hero on Australian Survivor: Champions vs Contenders last year.
And former AFL star Shaun Hampson has opened up about his time on Australian Survivor after returning to the show for the latest Heroes v Villains season.
The 34-year-old heartthrob addressed the aftermath of being voted out of the show this week in an interview with TV Reload with Benjamin Norris.
During their chat, Shaun admitted his mental health took a greater toll than his physical wellbeing.
He previously lost 11kg off his athletic physique during his first time on Survivor in 2019, but says he packed on the pounds during the latest season.

This time around, he admitted to being ‘a lot heavier’ when the series was taped last year.
‘For months, I was just eating so much; so physically, I felt really great,’ he added.
‘When I got voted out, I was sitting around my peak weight.’
While the physical challenges on the show took a physical toll on him, it made a bigger impact mentally.
‘It happened so long ago now, I was gutted, devastated and heartbroken,’ he said of his eviction in the latest season.

When it came time to watch the series with his loving family, including his model wife Megan Gale, he felt it was ‘bizarre’ to relive the trauma.
‘It was okay watching it with my family around me as I knew what had happened,’ he said.
Shaun has nothing but respect for the players who’d competed in back-to-back seasons.
‘I’m very self-aware of my game and open to admitting where I’ve made mistakes [which is why my wife is very supportive],’ he said.
