Sharon Osbourne slams Hugh Grant while Jeremy Vine defends him for THAT awkward Oscars interview

Sharon Osbourne and Jeremy Vine are the latest celebs to jump into the discussion about Hugh Grant’s awkward interview with Ashley Graham at the 2023 Oscars on Sunday night.

The 62-year-old actor was not amused when he stepped out at the glitzy Los Angeles event, and was openly dismissive of the 34-year-old supermodel’s questions, keeping his answer short and making his disinterest known in a now-viral clip.

Now others have weighed in on the video, with Sharon, Piers Morgan and Lorraine Kelly criticizing Hugh for his behaviour.

Appearing on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Sharon said: “I love Hugh Grant, but he was out of place.”

“I think he’s a great actor, I will say if you don’t want to talk to the press, if you’re bored with all this, don’t go on the red carpet.” That’s the way he is.’

Meanwhile, Piers branded the movie star a ‘d***’ saying: ‘Maybe he shouldn’t have used the D-word, but to me he just acted like a***. He just treated Ashley Graham, I felt with complete disrespect.

“And he faked someone’s work on the red carpet, if you’re an actor at the Oscars it’s not to talk to the media, or if you have to, to talk like you’re sucking on lemons.”

Lorraine addressed the interview on her show, saying, “It’s the most awkward Oscars moment since slap-gate.”

ABC’s Ashley Graham was interviewing Hugh Grant before the awards [and] let’s just say he kept his answers pretty dry and short.’

Giving his opinion, he said: “I know you’ve been asked those questions a million times, but you just have to smile and move on.”

However, Jeremy came to Hugh’s defense, arguing that actors become actors to create art, rather than to be famous.

She added: ‘I think the credit goes to him, why act?’

He then continued: “I think if you’re Hugh Grant, you’ve got everybody in your face all the time and you probably shut down by the end.”

Julia Sawalha also weighed in on the issue, defending Hugh by labeling him the “epitome of a true gentleman.”

She took to Twitter to share a photo of her and Hugh from the 1999 Comic Relief Doctor Who parody The Curse of Fatal Death.

Along with her, she tweeted: ‘I’m feeling protective of Hugh Grant today! I worked with him many years ago. He was an absolute joy.

“A hugely gifted actor, kind, funny and let’s not forget his tireless campaigning on behalf of all those who have been hacked by the British press. The epitome of a true gentleman.”

The Four Weddings and a Funeral star’s brusque behavior towards Ashley led to the chat being dubbed “the worst interview ever,” with the drama unfolding as the bubbly Ashley exclaimed, “What was it like being on Glass Onion? How fun is it to film something like that?’

But he was met with an embarrassing response: “Well, I barely participated, I was in for about three seconds,” Hugh quipped.

‘It must have been fun though, you had fun right?’ Ashley said as she went through the one-sided chat.

‘Erm…almost,’ the actor replied while looking away.

Smiling and enduring the interview, the model asked: ‘What are you wearing?’ While Hugh offered an insightful: “My suit.”

Viewers at home were quite embarrassed by the exchange, as they praised Ashley for how she handled the difficult situation and called the timing “the worst” since Will Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock at the 2022 ceremony.

“That made me want to hide under a pile of chairs,” one person wrote.

Another added: ‘Ashley Graham deserves an honorary Oscar for putting up with Hugh Grant. Don’t walk on the carpet if you don’t want to talk about the actual event.

A third fan wrote: “Is Hugh Grant trying to give the most awkward interview possible?”

Meanwhile, another social media user quipped: “I’m going to need that ABC interview with Hugh Grant cut out immediately.” That was art.
