An eight-year-old boy appears to have been surprisingly close to a shark as he was getting back into a boat after spearfishing.
In a viral TikTok video, which has been questioned by some on social media, a man asks the boy, Manni, what he brought back from the ocean after fishing off Lady Musgrave Island off Queensland’s central coast.
Manni, who is clinging to a ladder at the back of the boat, hoists a large fish onto the diving platform and starts saying something about a shark.

The shark suddenly appears, lunging to grab the fish from Manni’s hands, but ends up biting the air, its head hitting the boy.
According to the creator of the video, Manni emerged from the close encounter unharmed.
“It felt a little, it hurt a little bit in my chest, but that’s it,” Manni said. nine news.
Asked if the random attack would stop him from diving, Manni said, “I’m going back in.”
However, not everyone was convinced that the video was legitimate.
Moments after loading the fish into the boat, a shark appears out of nowhere to pounce on Manni.
“Looks like the shark is dead and someone is pushing it onto the boy,” one skeptic wrote in the comments.
A sequel to the video shows Manni showing off a fish that he speared, although it looks different from the one he previously tossed into the boat.
Certainly if he had any ill effects from the shark encounter, Manni doesn’t show it as he hoists up a large fish with a wide smile.
Despite what turns out to be a very direct encounter with the predator, Manni is unscathed.
However, the videographer is not overly impressed.
‘That’s bullshit, the most sh*tt fish in the ocean, why did you even shoot him?’ asks the man.
“Because he kept swimming at me, he didn’t stop, it was silly, it was just silly to keep swimming at me like ‘come shoot me,’ so I just shot him,” Manni replies.
“You’re going to eat it yourself,” says the filmmaker.
In comments, he later revealed that the milk fish was given to a local.
