A shark is seen on one of Sydney’s most popular beaches just meters from shore – swimmers are told not to enter the water as a rescue team moves it

A shark has been seen just meters from the shore at one of Sydney’s most popular beaches within shark nets.

The shark is believed to be a baby Dusky Whaler and was seen swimming in the area of the net at Manly’s Cabbage Tree beach at around 9am on Friday morning.

The beach has been closed to bathers while authorities move the shark into deeper water.

Adult Dusky Whaler Sharks measure up to 3.65 m and generally weigh between 158 and 185 kg.

As adults, they are considered potentially dangerous to humans due to their large size, but there are few attributable to it.

The species has a preference for shallow water near the shoreline.
