  • He was filmed twice, in very shallow water, and then he addressed a woman directly.
  • Mullaloo Beach near Perth was closed due to tiger shark sightings
  • A shark lover claimed that locals have started calling the shark ‘Trevor’

Alarming images have emerged of a large tiger shark gliding meters away from swimmers on a popular Australian beach.

Two videos filmed on Monday show what appeared to be the same predator in the shallows off Mullaloo Beach just north of Perth in Western Australia.

In one clip, filmed from shore, the large shark sails waist-deep in water with its fin sticking out.

In the video, frightened bathers can be heard screaming when they see the shark so close to people.

“It’s a dolphin,” says a surprised girl. ‘It’s a tiger shark,’ someone else corrects her.

Drone footage shows the shark head straight towards a woman before circling her at the last possible moment.

Surf Life Saving WA closed the beach just before noon.

But with temperatures hovering in the 30s, the swimmers returned to the water in the afternoon and the shark was back, this time seen by a drone camera.

At first, the animal glides right at an unaware bikini-clad woman, then swims around her at the last possible moment.

He then moves between her and a nearby father, who inadvertently motions for his young son to come closer to him, before turning and heading back into deeper water.

A self-confessed local shark lover, Toby Nichol, said in a social media post that he went looking for the shark, which he nicknamed ‘Trevor’.

He claimed that the woman in the clip saw that the shark “did the right thing by calmly leaving,” but the father did not.

“Yes, the man at the top of the video is motioning for his son to join him in the water (he didn’t see the shark).”

Nichol claimed that his video, along with other “Trev” videos in recent months, are “proof that sharks aren’t interested in humans.”

“But with that being said, accidents do happen, so be SharkSmart and follow the apps for shark movements in Australia,” he added.

The same shark is believed to have forced the closure of Mullaloo on December 15.

There have been dozens of shark sightings along the Perth coast in the last month.
