Monster shark comes dangerously close to unsuspecting swimmers at popular Aussie beach in Perth

Disturbing drone footage from a popular Australian beach has captured the moment a prowling shark came within meters of unsuspecting swimmers.

The close calls were filmed with a drone at Whitfords Beach in northern Perth, Western Australia, a spot known for tiger shark sightings.

The shark swam close to a father and his two children in the waves before being startled by a paddleboarder and heading into deeper water.

In another incident, the shark came within four meters of an unsuspecting swimmer before suddenly turning away.

The images were taken by a photographer and drone operator known on Instagram as Wanderlust_flyer.

“Sharks unfortunately have such a bad name because of their rare attacks,” the account captioned the post on Thursday.

‘While in reality we most likely swim with them every day without even knowing it. We love our sharks.”

The photographer added that if they saw a shark, they informed the rescuers and ran to the beach themselves to get everyone out of the water.

It comes after a three-metre tiger shark was spotted at Brighton Beach near Perth, sending hundreds of swimmers fleeing.

The Western Australian government has funded new shark nets and urged beachgoers to stay alert for sharks. A new beach barrier is expected to be installed at Bathers Beach in Fremantle in February.
