A woman has been left in critical condition after being bitten on the leg by what appeared to be a shark on a popular New York beach.
Police rushed to Rockaway Beach, in New York City’s Queens borough, shortly before 6 p.m. Monday after reports that the woman had been bitten on the leg.
Beachgoers appeared to be clearing the shoreline after the horror attack, and footage shortly after the incident showed the shoreline virtually empty as a helicopter hovered overhead.
The victim was rushed to Jamaica Hospital and police were on the scene as the investigation into the attack continues.

That reports the app for reporting crimes residentpolice put a tourniquet on the victim before she was rushed to hospital.
She was reportedly rescued from the water by lifeguards with a large portion of her leg missing when she was towed away.
The woman’s age was not immediately released and further information has not been confirmed by the NYPD.
