Basketball Hall-of-Famer, movie star, television analyst and musician Shaquille O’Neal has done many things throughout his life, but there are still a few things to check off the bucket list.
The ‘Inside the NBA’ panelist revealed he wants to go skydiving at least once in his life, with the four-time NBA champion interested in extreme things.
But his huge frame could be a problem for that, as he says PEOPLE that there was one drastic measure that someone suggested to make his dream come true.
“My only fear is: Can the parachute hold me? I went to a little class once and the lady said, “How much do you weigh?” I was like, and at that point I was heavy, I was like, ‘400 pounds.’ She said, “I think it goes up to 350. But my mother sews. She can sew two together.”
O’Neal has since lost much of that weight, but he joked, “It must be just luck that mom didn’t feel like sewing that day.” And then I’m all the way up there and the thing just rips in half. So I want to make sure everything is OK before I go there.”
Shaquille O’Neal told PEOPLE he wants to cross skydiving off his bucket list
He said the only thing he’s concerned about is whether the parachute would be able to support his weight
Shaq is also interested in climbing Kilimanjaro: “I’ve been thinking about it, hiking it,” O’Neal says. “But for that I’ll probably have to get into tip-tip-tip-tip-tip-top shape.”
O’Neal says he’s also tried other things, including scuba diving, which he said he didn’t like because it was “very, very, very, very deep.”
Shaq went on to talk about his interest in skydiving, saying that he got interested in it from watching other people’s videos online.
“I used to follow these kids skydiving and jumping out of planes, and I always wonder what I’ll feel when I can do that. So if I were to do something out of this world, it would probably be that.”
