Shannon Sharpe still regrets his confrontation with Tee Morant last year as he admitted he blacked out during the incident.

In January 2023, Sharpe and Morant, father of Memphis Grizzlies star Ja, had to be separated by security during the Lakers-Grizzlies game in Los Angeles. The verbal exchanges started with Sharpe and former Memphis forward Dillon Brooks before devolving into an on-court confrontation.

In this week’s edition of his ‘Nightcap’ podcast, Sharpe accepted blame for the incident, calling the argument “one of the worst moments” of his life.

“Honestly, when people say they’re going to black out, I believe them,” Sharpe told co-host Gilbert Arenas. ‘I completely forgot I was at the match. I said, ‘If one man steps over that line, it’s over.’

‘Honestly, that might have been one of the worst moments of my life. I should have let it go.’

“I hate that I put myself in that situation, but when I said I blacked out, I did it honestly,” Sharpe added. “Security took me back into the hallway and they were talking to me. “Hey Unc, are you okay?” As I was calming down, I said, “Oh man. Man, I messed up.”

Sharpe said he immediately thought about how his family members would react to the televised incident.

The three-time Super Bowl champion then admitted that he had reacted incorrectly and apologized to Brooks and the Grizzlies afterwards.

‘It is what it is. I’m wrong,” Sharpe said. ‘I’m terrified. I was wrong. I have apologized to the Grizzlies and Dillon Brooks.”

Sharpe also apologized on air after the incident. In an episode of FS1’s Undisputed, which he previously co-hosted with Skip Bayless, Sharpe publicly apologized for the way he handled the situation.

“It doesn’t matter what Dillon Brooks said or how many times he said it, I was the person responsible, I have the platform that I have and so many people looked up to me, I was wrong,” Sharpe said last year.

‘I should have lowered the temperature in the arena. Instead, I turned up the temperature and let it get out of hand.”
