Mr Roberts-Walker, who was driving the car, was trapped in the wreckage and also died at the scene.

Noll was one of the first people to encounter the nightmare scene on his way home to his family property.

'Last night was such a tragedy. “I just responded and did what I could to help the young woman at the scene,” the former Australian Idol said Daily telegram.

“Our prayers and condolences go out to their families at this terribly sad time.”

A volunteer rescuer at the scene said the singer “literally” ran to the car and pulled the young woman from the front seat as flames engulfed the vehicle.

“He got her out of the car as best he could and heroically did what he could before the police arrived,” he said.

It is understood Mr Roberts-Walker was from Casino but recently moved to Ellangowan to live with Ms Melrose and her family.

The tragedy occurred near Casino, where Noll and his family had moved to a farm after living in Sydney.

Locals said the section of Ellangowan Road where the accident occurred was notorious for accidents, citing the narrow roadway and lack of lighting.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including whether speed was a factor.
