Shannon Noll fans are scratching their heads after he performed a KFC jingle about ‘chicken and footy’ in State of Origin 2 – and his entire set was cut from the televised broadcast: ‘I’m fuming #justice for Nollsie’
Shannon Noll may have three number one singles to his name, but he chose to open his State of Origin 2 performance with a KFC ad that left fans scratching their heads at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.
Even more confusing, Channel Nine opted to cut Nollsy’s appearance from the broadcast altogether, despite the What About Me singer, 47, heavily promoting the sound check on his Instagram.
In addition, Nine had heavily promoted Noll’s performance during the match on social media, suggesting that the decision not to feature his performance was a last-minute decision.
Understandably, fans of Origin and Nollsy had a lot to say about the social media debacle.
“Did the NRL just have Shannon Noll sing a full song over the KFC Friday Night Footy jingle?” asked a stunned viewer on Twitter.

“Shannon Noll singing a KFC commercial at Origin should be as low as possible #RIPTina,” another wrote.

ABC Sport’s Nick Campton soon joined the chorus in disbelief.
“If I didn’t see Shannon Noll open his pre-game set with a KFC jingle, I wouldn’t believe it happened,” he wrote.
“Who needs Taylor Swift when Shannon Noll sings a song about footy and chicken at Suncorp Stadium,” another added.

Elsewhere, others were perplexed as to why Shannon’s performance was cut from the air altogether.
“So Nine isn’t airing Shannon Noll’s ‘gig’ because he sang the sponsor’s theme song. That would be a free ad. But ABC sports radio accidentally did it because they were airing pre-match stuff. Funny,” wrote respected music journalist Kathy McCabe.
Curiously, Channel Nine had been heavily promoting Noll’s performance during the match on social media, suggesting that the decision not to feature his performance was a last-minute one.
“They show even less of Shannon’s performance than The Living End, so nothing at all,” wrote another.
‘They didn’t even play a single Shannon Noll song?! I’m smoking. Get in the big black shiny car to drive and slap Nollsie on the throat,’ another joked.
