Shannen Doherty steps out for New Year’s Day brunch with her mom in Malibu amid stage four cancer battle… after revealing ‘bucket list’ trip that her oncologist made happen

Shannen Doherty enjoyed a New Year's brunch with her mother Rosa on Monday after spending the final moments of 2023 with Julie and Alexandra Hainer.

After saying goodbye to the holidays, the 52-year-old star, who is battling stage four breast cancer that has spread to her bones, spent the early afternoon with her mother at Kristy's restaurant in the quaint seaside town of Malibu.

For the occasion, the Charmed alumnus wore a gray sweater, oversized sunglasses, dark pants and a pair of white sneakers.

She opted to style her brunette locks in a sleek updo and carried a large brown to-go bag for her leftovers.

The Memphis native's outing comes on the same day she revealed that her boyfriend and oncologist, Dr. Lawrence Piro, helped her check an item off her bucket list.

After saying goodbye to the holidays, the 52-year-old star, who is battling stage four breast cancer that has spread to her bones, spent the early afternoon with her mother at Kristy's restaurant in the quaint seaside town of Malibu.

During Monday's episode of her Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty podcast, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum and Piro discussed their trip to Italy over the summer with his family.

“You invited me on this amazing yacht with your family and I got to go to Italy with you, which was kind of a bucket list thing,” she enthusiastically told listeners.

She continued, “By the way, you knew it was on my bucket list. I mean, you called me and said, “It's like a bucket list, Shannen.” I was so excited.”

As he reflected on their fun outing, Piro talked about the “great restaurants” they dined at and Doherty's bravery.

“I mean, she's incredible, she jumps off every level of the yacht. Even the highest. Shannen is fearless, he really is,” he added.

Doherty noted that she 'injured' herself on the yacht stairs.

“That's the amazing thing, you jump from the highest point of this huge yacht and you climb back on,” she continued. 'I got scared of the jellyfish so I took the long way and the dangerous way and then I gave myself that big bump on my leg.'

They then talked about their friendship and doctor-patient relationship amid her battle with stage 4 breast cancer.

Piro noted how they've “always kept our jobs separate” and “when we're together socially as friends, it's a friends job.”

“When we do medical stuff, it's a medical job,” he continued. “And you know, every now and then those things have to cross, but that's extremely rare.”

Piro explained that she never asks him “anything medical” when “they” do something social.

“If you have to, you say, 'Look, I'm really sorry to ask you this right now, we're eating, but blah blah blah,'” he noted.

Doherty pointed out that she had seen his phone, which is “flooded 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

'You don't get a day off for medical questions. Your patients have your cell phone. You have given complete access to yourself, so if I can steal you and we go out to eat somewhere, I don't want to do that,” she said. 'If I have a question for you, I will text you during office hours or come to the clinic.'

Last month, Shannen gave the tough health update about her eight-year battle with cancer in a new feature story published by People magazine.

However, the star remains positive despite this setback to her health, as she bravely told the weekly: 'I don't want to die.

'I'm not done with life yet. I'm not done loving yet. I'm not done creating yet. I'm not done yet hopefully changing things for the better. I'm just not ready yet.'

Shannen continues to seek treatment.

She said she hopes to inspire others with her cancer journey, explaining, “If you ask yourself, 'Why me?' Why did I get cancer?' and then 'Why did my cancer come back? Why am I stage 4?', which makes you look for the greater purpose in life.'
