Shane Warne’s daughter Summer reveals why she initially turned down The Masked Singer – as she shares the sweet moment Coldplay’s Chris Martin gave her his blessing to sing Yellow

The Masked Singer shocked fans on Monday night after Shane Warne’s daughter Summer was unmasked as the Bad Avocado.

And the 21-year-old has now admitted she almost didn’t appear on stage at all after questioning her natural singing talents.

“I actually wasn’t planning on going to the show. I actually said no, I said, ‘No, look, it’s not for me, I don’t sing. I’m not doing this,'” Summer said Jase & Lauren from KIIS 101.1 on Tuesday.

“But then I kind of had his (my father’s) voice in my head: ‘You have to do this.’ “I think if it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have done it,” she added.

Summer, whose father died in March last year, believes Shane would be proud of her efforts on stage.

“He would make a fool of himself if he wasn’t there, but I could tell he was with me through the whole process,” she mused.

Elsewhere in the interview, the blonde revealed that Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin personally gave her his blessing to sing his hit Yellow as her song on The Masked singer.

Shane was friends with Chris and was a big fan of Yellow.

Summer (pictured with her late father Shane) appeared on KIIS 101.1’s Jase & Lauren radio show on Tuesday and confessed: ‘I actually wasn’t planning on going on the show. I actually said no, I said, ‘No, look, it’s not for me, I don’t sing. I’m not doing this

“(Yellow) was the opening of my father’s funeral when everyone sat down as the music video played and at the memorial Chris Martin did his own version of it,” she said.

“Chris actually gave me the rights to sing that song on the show. My dad’s PA texted him and said, ‘Look, I can’t tell you what, but Summer is doing this and they want to sing Yellow. He says, ‘Yes, absolutely,’ and was back within four minutes,” she added.

Elsewhere in the chat, Summer shared a heartbreaking update on her mental health following Shane’s death.

“But then I kind of had his (my father’s) voice in my head: ‘You have to do this.’ “I think if it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have done it,” she added.

The spider king died of natural causes in March 2022 at the age of 52 while on holiday in Thailand.

Summer admitted that “every day is a challenge” and that she sometimes breaks down and “cries for hours” when reminded of her father.

It comes after Summer’s stunning performance on The Masked Singer on Monday.

Elsewhere in the interview, the blonde revealed that Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin personally gave her his blessing to sing his hit Yellow as her song on The Masked singer.

After taking off her mask, 21-year-old judges Melanie Brown, Abbie Chatfield, Dave Hughes and Chrissie Swan were completely stunned, with none of them able to guess her identity.

Summer seemed impressed after coming face to face with Mel B.

“I love you all so much,” she told the judges. “But Mel B, I just like it, I really adore you. When I was fifteen, I dressed up as the Spice Girls. It’s like, “I just want to be Mel B.”

Summer went on to say that she has always loved singing and wanted to make her father proud.
