Shane Ramsey: Heartbreaking update after Aussie tradie was left fighting for life in the wake of a horror moped crash in Bali
The family of a worker who suffered serious head injuries in a horrific moped accident in Bali is in shock and preparing to turn off his ventilator.
Shane Ramsey, 30, was visiting the Indonesian island for a wedding and was riding a moped in Seminyak on Sunday when he crashed into a roadside pole.
He was not wearing a helmet and had no travel insurance, which would have cost him only about $50 a week.
Mr Ramsey was rushed to hospital where he underwent brain surgery and has been in a coma ever since, racking up huge hospital bills.
His family paid $70,000 for him to undergo emergency neurological surgery and arranged a medical evacuation flight, which is believed to have cost around $150,000.
Mr Ramsey arrived in Perth at around 5pm on Thursday and was taken by ambulance to the intensive care unit at Royal Perth Hospital.
In a tragic announcement on Saturday, Mr Ramsey’s family will be forced to say their final goodbyes after being told the craftsman will never regain his brain function.
His mother, Catherine Ramsey, flew from Perth immediately after the crash to be with her son, said 7News She feels ‘numb’.

However, Ms Ramsey says she takes comfort in the knowledge that her son is an organ donor and will give other Australians the gift of life.
She previously told Daily Mail Australia that Ramsey had suffered three bleeds on the brain, requiring surgery, and a fractured skull.
βHe is stable at this time, but the true extent of the damage to his brain is unknown at this time,β she said.
‘He is still in a coma and we will only know the outcome in a few days.
‘I just know that the damage is enormous and we don’t know if he will come out of the coma or if he will have lasting problems.
“We’re holding on, we just feel numb right now.”
Mr. Ramsey was on his way to watch a UFC fight with friends when the accident happened.
His mother previously told Nine News she would sell the house to pay his medical bills if necessary.
βI just want to take him home, we’re in a strange country,β she said.
Doctors are not yet sure how extensive the damage to his brain is.
Mr. Ramsey had plans to buy a house when he returned home.

The young professional has been in hospital since Sunday and his family says they do not know the full extent of his injuries.
A GoFundMe was launched on Monday to help pay for Mr Ramsey’s medical bills and possible medical evacuation home.
At the time of publication, over $120,000 has been raised.
Mr. Ramsey had just completed a three-year apprenticeship and was looking to the future.
The carpenter’s former boss also took to Facebook on Monday to draw attention to the fundraiser.
He remembers running into his former student a few weeks ago.
