Shane Lowry has supported Rory McIlroy to overcome his latest failure to win the Masters and complete a career Grand Slam.
McIlroy struggled to a hugely disappointing second-round 77 at Augusta National, refusing to speak to waiting reporters.
The joint favorite pre-tournament was three shots outside the projected cut as he signed his card before a 21-minute suspension for lightning threat.
More inclement weather made scoring difficult on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, as McIlroy ultimately missed the cut by two.
McIlroy, who was backed earlier this week by Tiger Woods to ‘definitely’ win the Masters at one point in his career, was on what turned out to be the borderline when he made a birdie on 13th and 15th, but shot at two of the last three holes.

McIlroy had a terrible weekend in Augusta as he didn’t even make the first cut
“Honestly, I felt like he was going to have a good week,” former Open champ Lowry said after his third round.
“I’ve spent a lot of time with him over the past few weeks, but that’s golf. Often you don’t get what you deserve.
“Obviously it has been very hard on him. I’ll catch up with him next week. I’m sure he’ll get over it.’
Lowry and McIlroy will play next week at the RBC Heritage event in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
