Sha’Carri Richardson FAILS to win gold in 100m final at 2024 Olympics after long journey back from Tokyo heartbreak… with Julien Alfred winning first ever gold for St. Lucia

Sha’Carri Richardson had to settle for silver in the Olympic women’s 100m final, while Julien Alfred took gold in a stunning performance.

Under the watchful eye of her grandmother, Betty Harp – also known as Big Momma – Richardson ran a time of 10.87 in the rain in Paris.

But the world champion, who missed the Tokyo Games after testing positive for THC, a component of marijuana, was unable to catch up with Alfred, who won the first ever Olympic medal for St. Lucia.

American Melissa Jefferson finished third, taking bronze with a time of 10.92.

Hours earlier, two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce of Jamaica had withdrawn from the women’s 100-meter sprint, meaning she could no longer qualify for the semi-finals.

The 37-year-old, who won the event in 2008 and 2012, was due to run in the same series as Richardson and Alfred.

She previously said Paris would be her last Olympic Games, but gave no immediate reason for her withdrawal.
