Sexy swimsuit models, NFL players and a rodeo announcer: The oddest jobs of elected lawmakers revealed

A racy video of Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) in a skimpy MAGA swimsuit showing off her “femininity” took the internet by storm last week.

Americans were surprised to learn from the video that Luna, 35, was a former Sports Illustrated model, one of many unexpected former jobs that members of Congress have held.

She’s not the only one who had a “cool” job before writing laws.

Kamala Harris used to work at McDonald’s

If elected, Kamala Harris will achieve a number of firsts, not the least of which will be the first former McDonald’s employee to become president.

Harris worked at a McDonald’s in California during the summers after her freshman and sophomore years at Howard University.

An ad released last week by Harris’ campaign team touted her former employer:

“Determination is how Kamala Harris went from McDonald’s worker to prosecutor, attorney general, senator, and our vice president — in just one generation.”

Her previous job at the beloved American party was mentioned several times this week during the Democratic Party convention in Chicago.

Rep. Burgess Owens used to play for the NFL

Owens, 73, a Republican from Texas, played for the Jets during the 1970s and was part of the Raiders championship team that won the 1980 Super Bowl.

In 1983, he moved to New York City to start a business software company with his brother, but the venture failed and the two later filed for bankruptcy. He then moved to an apartment in Brooklyn and worked as a security guard and chimney sweep before returning to the corporate world.

Rep. Rick Crawford, cowboy turned rodeo announcer

Crawford, R-Ark., used to ride bulls in rodeo until a serious injury in 1993 kept him out of the saddle permanently. He then began doing radio rodeo commentary and launched a music career, sometimes singing while riding his horse.

He later became a news anchor and in 2010 he ran for Congress for the first time.

Rep. Kevin Hern, ‘McCongressman’

Harris isn’t the only former McDonald’s employee: In 1987, Hern, a Republican from Oklahoma, moved to Arkansas and took a job at McDonald’s. A decade later, he bought his first franchise of the fast-food chain, and at one point owned 18 in the Tulsa, Oklahoma, area.

Hern also has his pilot’s license and sometimes flies to and from Washington on his private jet.

Rep. Jay Obernolte, video game producer

Obernolte, R-Calif., started his own company, Far Sight Studios, in 1990 in California from his CalTech dorm room. The company first made games for the Nintendo Entertainment System and now makes them for PlayStation, XBox, Nintendo Switch, Oculus and more.

His first video game, NFL ’95, was a surprise success and would become a competitor to EA Sports’ Madden games.

Rep. Rich McCormick Appeared in Marine Corps Commercials

McCormick, a former Marine, appeared in advertisements for the Corps as a swordsman.

After the Marines, he joined the Navy and became a commander, earning an MBA and medical degree between deployments. He was an ER doctor in Georgia before being elected to Congress.

Boebert (R-Colo.) and her ex-husband, Jayson, previously owned and operated a restaurant called Shooters Grill in Rifle, Colo. The wait staff openly wore gun holsters and diners were encouraged to do so in the restaurant.

A former chef told DailyMail.com that Boebert once pointed a loaded gun at them and then laughed at them for being Democrats. Boebert denied this through a spokesman.

Eli Crane was on Shark Tank

Crane, a Navy Seal who now serves as a Republican in the House of Representatives from Arizona, and his wife Jennifer earned money for their bottle opener company, Bottle Breacher, from Mark Cuban and Kevin O’Leary on Shark Tank in season six of the series, which aired in 2014. The bottle openers are made from .50-caliber bullet casings.

In 2018 Crane bragged to CNBC that his company was among the top 20 best-selling Shark Tank companies of all time.
