Sex trends for 2024 revealed: Searches for ‘findom’, being in a throuple and thirst traps increase – but Britons are ditching spanking, dogging and bondage, new study claims

Saucy Brits have ditched spanking, chasing and bondage in favor of 'findom' because they are in a throuple and thirst trap, a new study has found.

Analysis of 160 million Google searches revealed the growth and decline of more than 100 major kinky words over the past five years.

The five most popular words were 'findom' – financial domination, where someone derives pleasure from controlling someone else's finances, and 'thirst trap' – where someone posts content with the intention of being desired.

But the most popular search term was 'gooning': the achievement of long-lasting arousal through sensory overload, often involving hypnotic stimuli.

The findings – written by Rachel Thompson, a leading expert on sex and relationships – also show that dogging has declined like a kink over the past five years, with searches for 'foreplay' showing the most dramatic decline over the same period.

Beating fell by 33 percent, while chasing fell by 34 percent and slavery fell by 36 percent.

The report was created by analyzing more than 100 of the most popular kink-related keywords, compared to Google search data and insights from Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Twitter/X over the past five years.

The data suggests that a rapidly changing landscape of sexual preferences is sweeping the UK, fueled by social media and intergenerational changes.

It also shines a spotlight on an entirely new sexual vocabulary that has emerged online to circumvent censorship, called “the sexicon” or “algospeech.”

Neologisms like seggs (sex), maize (porn), mascara (romantic sexual partner) and accountant (sex worker) have emerged, allowing content creators to bypass algorithmic filters on sites like TikTok and Instagram to tackle overly sexual content.
