Sex Education star scores major BBC new role in comedy show – three months after the Netflix series ended

One of Sex Education's main stars has landed a major role in a BBC comedy show, just three months after the hit Netflix series ended.

Aimee Lou Wood shot to fame playing the beloved Aimee Gibbs – which storyline came to an end when the show's final and fourth seasons were released in September.

The 29-year-old actress became a fan favorite in the comedy-drama series alongside X-Files sensation Gillian Anderson, Doctor Who's leading man Ncuti Gatwa and Barbie actress Emma Mackey.

But while her role took its course, Aimee appears to be booked and busy as she has already landed a role in a new BBC comedy series.

The Living star joined the cast of the six-part show called Daddy Issues – where she will play a party-hungry Gemma, who becomes pregnant after joining the mile high club following a random encounter on the way back from a holiday to Portugal .

When the going gets tough, Gemma turns to the only person in her life: her father Malcolm (played by David Morrissey), who despite having a good heart is a bit useless.

Malcolm can't load a washing machine, boil an egg or solve a technology problem – as he continues to do suffers from the collapse of his family and lives in a bedroom for divorced men.

As the father-daughter duo join forces during their unfortunate vicissitudes, Malcolm moves into Gemma's flat.

The “genuinely laughable sitcom” – made by the same team behind White Gold and Inbetweeners – is said to be a “classic odd couple comedy about two funny, deeply flawed characters, who happen to be father and daughter,” according to the BBC.

It promises to span screens from dating disasters to failed romances, from toxic friendships to messy family dynamics, ending with a “dangerously sociopathic prenatal teacher.”

Filming has already started, the actress said about her leading role: 'It had been a long time since a script had made me laugh out loud. Danielle did just that.

'When I heard David was involved I was even more excited. He's someone I've admired all my life.'

“Watching shows like Blackpool and Red Riding when I was younger sparked my interest in acting and so it feels surreal and amazing to be working with someone I consider a legend and inspiration,” she added.
