Severance Season 2 will soon continue the story of Lumon Industries on Apple TV Plus. The next installment in the sci-fi thriller series will unravel more of the existential mysteries at play and the controversial medical procedure that leaves employees unable to remember their lives outside the office walls. Unsurprisingly, given how amazing the first season was, we can’t wait to see what’s to come in its second outing.
Season 2 continues with one of the best Season 1 cliffhangers in recent memory. Severance is a show that masterfully brings together complex, conflicting characters in a sombre office satire. It’s a series that grew in scope and ambition with each eerie episode – like the endless hallways of the Lumon office, always longer, darker, and more nerve-wracking than you’d expect.
Dismissal is possible the best apple tv show until now (although your feelings about that may depend on whether Ted Lasso already has your heart). It is capable of wringing laughter out of painful corporate banalities, while simultaneously driving them to their most terrifying conclusions, as we see dehumanized and psychologically tortured workers being sacrificed on the altar of CEO worship.
But there’s still plenty we don’t know – including exactly when Severance Season 2 will land. However, as the second season was green-lighted in April 2022 and filming is already underway, we’ll be sure to hear more information soon. Here’s everything we know so far about Severance Season 2.
Severance season 2 release date
The Severance Season 2 release date has yet to be finalized, but we can estimate a rough launch window. Shooting started in October 2022 and is expected to end in May 2023.

It took about a year for the first season to finish production and appear on Apple TV Plus. Given that the main photography has six months to go and the fact that the show is in need of a long post-production phase, it’s likely we’ll have to wait until late 2023 to see the next episode. Let’s just hope that’s the case.
Resignation season 2 cast
Here’s the full cast for Severance Season 2 so far:
- Adam Scott as Mark Scout
- Zach Cherry as Dylan George
- Britt Lower as Helena “Helly” Riggs
- John Tuturro as Irving Bailiff
- Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel
- Tramell Tillman as Seth Milchick
- Christopher Walken as Burt Goodman
- Dichen Lachman as Mrs. Casey
- Jen Tullock as Devon Hale
- Michael Chernus as Ricken Hale
There were plenty of returning characters and guest characters in the first season of Severance, so we could see some of those returning for the next outing. However, Apple has yet to confirm which of these may be back, or whether new actors have been hired to play new characters.
However, there will be eight new faces among the cast of Season 2. Per The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab) (THR), this big-name octet has joined Severance’s roster in undisclosed roles:
- Gwendoline Christie (The Sandman, Game of Thrones)
- Bob Balaban (The French Dispatch)
- Robby Benson (Beauty and the Beast)
- Stefano Carannate (Miribilia)
- John Noble (Fringe)
- Ólafur Darri lafsson (The Tourist)
- Alia Shawkat (Search Feast, The Old Man)
- Merritt Weaver (Nurse Jackie)
Speak with THR (opens in new tab) for a post-mortem piece of the season 1 finale, director-producer Ben Stiller previously suggested he had a lot of actors in mind for possible roles in season 2, saying, “For me there are a lot of people like Christopher Guest. if one day he could be a part of the show’. It’s nice when you have a show like this where people might get an episode or two, but also fit into the world of Severance.”
However, creator Dan Erickson wants Severance’s cast to get the full celebrity A-list, while joking with THR that “If Barack Obama [there at the 2022 Emmys],,I’m going to see if he wants a part in this show. I think he would be very good, he would bring some gravitas.”
Severance season 2 plot
Major spoilers for Severance season 1 to follow.
So, what’s happening in Severance? The show is set in Lumon Industries, a shadowy corporate organization that has found a way to split a person’s psyche into two: an “innie” who works on Lumon’s property, and an “outie” who never spends a day in their lives.
The downside, of course, is that the “innie” who does all the work experiences a never-ending loop of nine to five, never leaving the office and doomed to repeat obtuse and pointless tasks forever. And it’s not long before some employees object to such a soul-destroying, Kafkaesque experiment.
Mark Scout initially joins Lumon to escape the crippling grief of losing his wife in a car accident, which allows him to distance himself from his “outside world” for most of the week. But he becomes more curious about how the company works after his friend and manager Petey unexpectedly stops showing up for work, while a new recruit seems determined to escape the office. Cue plenty of manipulation by their employer, unexplained baby goats, and a surprisingly violent disco.
Season 1 ended on a major cliffhanger, with four of these rebellious ‘innies’ successfully activating their work psyches ‘remotely’, launching themselves into the lives of their ‘outies’ and spreading the word about their atrocious working conditions and reputation. Ruining Lumon just before an important vote on whether or not to roll out the dismissal procedure more widely.
We expect to pick up the moment that season one ended, when this remote activation was interrupted by the employee supervisor. That leaves Irving knocking on his office sweetheart’s door, Dylan caught red-handed in the Lumon control room, “Helly” onstage at a Lumon gala after a trip to the firm’s practices, and Mark at his sister’s house. after he released his wife, was still alive and working as a Lumon employee. A lot is happening at once, and all those “outies” of these people will suddenly find themselves back in the room after an hour of their innies taking control.
We expect Season 2 to focus more on the world beyond Lumon Industries, with Helly’s gala blowout and Mark’s discoveries leaking some of the company secrets to the public. But it wouldn’t be Severance without, well, layoff, and we’re sure to see the cast flitting between their “innies” and “outies” every now and then, especially if it’s to further explore Lumon’s labyrinthine office corridors, which certainly contain many secrets that we have yet to unravel.
Speak with Variety (opens in new tab) About what fans can expect from next season, Stiller teased, “I think the most important thing is how you can keep all those things in terms of the feel of the show, while also expanding the world since the last episode ended. We’ve brought Mark and Irving and Helly to the surface, and I think these are storylines that people will be interested in. So it’s going to be a matter of finding that balance.”
During a Comic-Con 2022 panel (per Time magazine (opens in new tab)), Erickson added: “I’m excited to go into season 2, building out the world a little bit more and being able to see, with this one little tweak to reality, what the different consequences would be. We didn’t want it to feel sci-fi in the classic sense. We wanted it to be a lot more grounded.”
Oh, and expect there will be some kind of disclosure regarding That goats in season 1. When asked if there was any significance to their appearance at Comic-Con, Erickson simply replied, “Yes.”
Severance season 2 trailer
There’s no official Severance Season 2 trailer yet, but we did get a very brief teaser during Apple’s iPhone 14 event in September 2022.
The footage only shows Helly getting off a subway on her way home or to her office in Lumon, so it doesn’t reveal anything about the show’s second season. Still, it’s a fun Easter egg-style clip and shows how much Apple relies on one of its flagship shows (like Ted Lasso for it) to drive subscribers to its streaming service.
We’ll update this section as soon as an official trailer comes out.
Will we get more seasons of Severance?
Will there be more entries after Severance Season 2? It seems likely. Severance is one of the best TV shows to hit Apple’s streaming platform since its launch in 2019, and the company doesn’t want to sleep on a certified hit. It has a 97% certified “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has won multiple awards and is sure to be a big winner on the 2023 awards circuit as well.
Ted Lasso, Apple’s other mega-hit original series, is gearing up for a third season and we expect Severance to receive similar treatment. Really, it all depends on how Severance’s second season goes, but the quality of the storytelling so far bodes well for later seasons, and Lumon Industries’ many unexplained mysteries should provide enough for a few dozen episodes before it’s released. all runs out. Just don’t expect season 3 of Severance to arrive in 2025 at the earliest.
