Serena Williams marks daughter Olympia’s first day of kindergarten as life post-tennis continues

Serena Williams marked Monday as the first day of kindergarten for her daughter, Olympia, as tennis star continued her journey of tennis.

The 23-time Grand Slam kicked off her ‘evolution’ away from tennis earlier this month when she closed the curtain on a stunning career following the third-round defeat to Alja Tomljanovic at the US Open.

The 40-year-old has now given a glimpse into her after-court life as she began her life as a ‘stay at home mom’.

The American star announced Monday morning via Twitter that it was the first day of kindergarten for her five-year-old daughter Olympia.

Williams posted: ‘Okay, first day of kindergarten… #stayathomemom #workingmom.’

When she announced in an interview with Vogue last month that she was leaving the sport, Williams revealed that she wanted to make more time for “other things that are important to me.”

Those “other things,” she explained, are business and family.

For starters, Williams, who turns 41 later this month, not only wants to spend more time with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and Olympia, but she’s also hoping for another child.

“For the past year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and recently we received information from my doctor who reassured me and made me feel that when we are ready, we can expand our family,” Willems wrote. .

‘As an athlete I absolutely do not want to be pregnant again. I have to be two feet in tennis or two feet out.’

Last week she admitted, albeit with a wink, that her retirement should have come years ago, because giving up the profession has given her the chance to “enjoy” life.

Williams, 40, appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last Tuesday night and also revealed that she was unusually nervous after announcing her retirement plans to Vogue in August.

She said, “I was stressed all the time, I thought I would feel really miserable and scared if this whole article got out.

“You must think I’ve been playing tennis since I was literally in a pram. There is a picture of Venus pushing me in a pram.

“For me that it had to happen suddenly, it was good, this is something big. When it came out, I was actually relieved. I didn’t expect to feel this way, but I felt good.’

She added: “I should have done it ten years ago. I always thought that at the end I would just quietly walk away and say nothing and just make an announcement on social media.”

However, the American star did tease that she could copy Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Brady, who briefly retired earlier this year during the NFL outdoor season before reversing the decision.

When asked about copying Brady, she said, “Tom Brady started a great trend. That’s what I want to say.’

She also revealed that she doesn’t plan to retire as a relaxing period, but rather as an “evolution of Serena.”

“I think retirement is something that’s super deserved and that people work really hard for,” she added.

“I just feel like I’m at an age where I definitely have a lot more to give and there’s a lot more I want to do, so I’m not going to relax. There is so much more for me. I feel it’s more of an evolution of Serena.

“There are so many things I’ve wanted to do for so many years and I’ve had such a passion for tennis for so long that I’ve never done it before. But now it’s time for me to enjoy those things.’

Olympia had made an adorable cameo during her mother’s opening round match against Danka Kovinic at Flushing Meadows as Williams entered her final tournament.

Olympia was spotted in the stands next to her father and Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian at Arthur Ashe Stadium on August 29.

The youngster was twinning with her mother as she was decked out in a matching outfit for Williams’ dazzling look on the pitch.

The outfit, made by longtime partner Nike, was all black and covered in diamonds, and the sportswear giant had a matching outfit made for Olympia, who encouraged her mother in the booth next to her father.
