Serbia training session halted as pyro-wielding fans clash with police just days before England match… after security officials rule fixture ‘high risk’ over hooliganism fears

  • Security booed as a fan was stopped after running onto the training pitch
  • Pyros were then launched at the police, forcing a halt to training

Serbia’s pre-England training session was halted as pyro-wielding fans clashed with police in ominous scenes.

Dragan Stojkovic’s team will play against the Three Lions in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday evening in a match that has been labeled as ‘high risk’.

Local police fear that 500 Serbian hooligans will try to cause trouble, while weak alcohol will be served in the stands in an attempt to keep things under control.

However, on Wednesday evening an open training session descended into chaos after a young fan tried to storm onto the pitch to meet his heroes.

After he was stopped by security, there were boos from some Serbian fans who had gathered and pyros were then launched at the police.

Officers responded quickly and tried to find the person responsible, but he was able to escape, according to German BILD.

The session was interrupted but was able to resume after police calmed things down.

More than 1,000 police officers will be present during the Sunday evening opener. The match will be the only one in the tournament with alcohol restrictions in place, with 2.8 percent beer being served.
