The senior royals ‘outdone’ Harry and Meghan last night when they hosted a glitzy reception at Buckingham Palace.

While the Sussexes attended an awards ceremony in New York, the King, Queen Consort and Prince and Princess of Wales dusted off their finest tiaras for the annual white-tie diplomatic corps reception at Buckingham Palace.

Camilla, 75, looked stunning in an Anna Valentine gown complete with the Queen’s much-loved sapphire and diamond tiara with its matching necklace.

Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales wore a red lace Jenny Packham gown with the lotus flower tiara she has worn on previous occasions.

She had her GCVO and Royal Family orders pinned to her dress and sported a pair of Queen Elizabeth diamond earrings.

It was the first time that the reception, in which up to 2,000 guests descend on the palace, has been held since 2019 due to the covid pandemic.

At the reception, which usually takes place annually, the monarch invites the diplomatic corps to an event in the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace.

The reception celebrates the presence in London of one of the world’s largest diplomatic corps and the King and Queen meet representatives of countries accredited to the Court of St. James.

The last reception for the diplomatic corps was hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in December 2019.

Tonight’s event comes after the Prince and Princess of Wales looked loved-up as ever in heartwarming behind-the-scenes Instagram snaps taken at this year’s Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Boston.

The royal couple, both in their 40s, appeared to channel Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who recently shared a host of intimate photos in the explosive trailer ahead of their documentary later this week, into black-and-white theatrical shots.

Kate, a mother of three, was effortlessly elegant in an off-the-shoulder gown, her auburn tresses cascading down her back; she was photographed walking around in the figure-hugging ensemble, which featured a slit in the back of hers.
