Senator Lindsey Graham speaks out against the ‘tone deaf’ United Nations after it calls for an Israeli ceasefire with Hamas when ‘the bodies haven’t even been buried yet’
Senator Lindsey Graham came out guns blazing against the United Nations, hours after it voted to officially call for a ceasefire in Israel in the midst of the war with Hamas.
The South Carolina senator was furious Friday evening as he spoke to a room full of Jewish voters at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual summit in Las Vegas, Nevada, just three weeks after Hamas terrorists launched a brutal attack on Israel.
He also warned Iran during his Shabbat dinner remarks that if they get involved, the US will “blow you off the map.
” and ‘destroy your oil fields.’
The UN overwhelmingly demanded a humanitarian ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, while the Jewish state defended itself with counterattacks on the Gaza Strip.
“The bodies haven’t even been buried in Israel and the UN has called for a ceasefire,” Graham complained. ‘Did you hear what I just said? We can’t let this happen.’
Senator Lindsey Graham said the United Nations is “tone deaf” for voting overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution demanding a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
“Let me tell you when there will be a ceasefire – when Hamas will cease to exist. Then there will be a ceasefire,” he told a noisy room full of cheers from angry Jewish voters.
Hamas launched a surprise multi-front attack on Israel earlier this month, leading to the deaths of about 1,500 Israelis. The terrorist attacks led to the highest number of deaths among Jewish people in a single day since the Holocaust.
The US has confirmed that more than 30 Americans have been killed in the conflict so far and about a dozen are missing and believed to be being held hostage in Gaza.
The United Nations General Assembly in New York voted 120 to 14 on Friday to adopt the non-binding resolution calling for an “immediate, lasting and sustained humanitarian ceasefire leading to a cessation of hostilities.” in the bloodiest conflict in decades between Israel and Hamas. , the de facto government of Gaza.
Graham said Friday after the decision: “The most tone-deaf organization in the history of the world is the United Nations.”
“I don’t want to hear ‘stand with Israel’ anymore, I want to hear ‘stand with Israel without apology.’ We have nothing to apologize for,” he added.
The resolution, which 45 states abstained from voting on, also called for “the immediate and unconditional release of all civilians illegally held,” although it did not name Hamas as the kidnappers.
The UN General Assembly resolution infuriated Israel, with its envoy to the UN, Gilad Erdan, accusing the international community of supporting “Nazi terrorists”, referring to Hamas.
He said the international body had no legitimacy or relevance, adding that the only way to destroy Hamas was to “remove them from their tunnels and destroy their underground city of terror.”
The United Nations General Assembly in New York voted 120 to 14 on Friday in favor of the non-binding resolution, which calls for an “immediate, lasting and sustained humanitarian ceasefire leading to a cessation of hostilities.”
Among those who voted against the bill were Israel and the US, which said today they support a pause in Israeli military operations in Gaza to bring humanitarian aid, fuel and electricity to civilians there.
White House spokesman John Kirby said Friday that if removing hostages from Gaza requires a local temporary pause, the U.S. supports it.
He added: “We do not draw red lines for Israel. We continue to support them.
“Since the very beginning, we have and will continue to have conversations about how they do this.”
The call for a ceasefire also angered Republicans and the Jewish people, who said the UN and progressive Democrats are essentially asking Israel to stop defending itself against Hamas.
Graham pushed a Republican talking point in which he blamed President Joe Biden for paying $6 billion to Iran for the release of five hostages, who they say are now being used to fund Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
“If someone wants to slit your throat, don’t buy a knife,” Graham said at Friday’s conference.
“Just in case they’re watching in Iran tonight, this is what I want you to know: If you escalate this conflict, unleash Hamas in the north on Israel, if you attack one more American, kill one more American soldier, we’re going to explode. off the map,” he warned.
Graham added: “We are going to destroy your oil fields. You’re getting out of the oil business.’
