Senate Democratic hopeful says he wishes 81-year-old Biden was ’10 years younger’: Rep. David Trone tells supporters the president ‘talks slower’ and ‘moves like he’s older’ but insists he’s doing a great job supplies
Rep. David Trone, a Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in Maryland, was candid to a group of voters when discussing President Joe Biden’s age, saying he wished the president was “ten years younger.”
At 81, Biden is the nation’s oldest president, and his advanced age has become one of the defining issues of the 2024 race.
While some Democratic candidates have tiptoed on the age issue, Trone chose to address it head-on as he addressed the Queen Anne’s County Democratic Club in Stevensville, Maryland, on Wednesday.
“I wish he was 10 years younger, okay, I get it,” Trone said, according to video obtained by Politico for Monday’s edition of Playbook. ‘Who here isn’t? I know I do. Really and truly. But you know what it is, it is. We are doing our best.’
Trone also argued that Biden was “firing and firing on all cylinders.” ‘DDoes he talk slower? Yes. Does he move like he’s older? Yes,” Trone continued.

Speaking about his own experience, he told voters the most important thing is who you hire.
“But I’ve been a CEO all my life,” he said. “People who run things are the smart people you hire, the people around you.”
“And getting great people into all those jobs, as many as you can – that’s how government works, through others,” he added.
The Biden administration has had far less turnover than the White House under Trump, Biden’s likely rival in the 2024 general election.
But without the same level of chaos and palace intrigue, much of the critical reporting on Biden has been tied to his blunders and stumbles.
Polls also show Americans are wary that Biden, who will be 82 by the time he is sworn in for a second term, can hold on for another four years.
Trone is vying for the Senate seat being vacated by Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin, who is retiring.
So far, he is running against Angela Alsobrooks, the CEO of Prince George’s County in Maryland, for the Democratic nomination.
On the Republican side, former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has intervened.
When Politico asked Trone about his comments about Biden’s age, he stood by them.
“I often say I wish I was 10 years younger,” Trone said. “I also often say that Joe Biden is doing a fantastic job, and that’s exactly what I said in the unedited version of this video.”
