Senator Marco Rubio accused the Biden administration of leaking the president’s call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a way to appeal to anti-Semitic supporters.
An Axios reports Saturday evening details that Joe Biden told Netanyahu in their call that the US would not participate in counter-attacks against Iran.
Rubio claims that this aspect of the call was deliberately leaked by the White House as a pandering to “anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and pro-terrorist elements” of the Democratic Party.
“They know Israel is going to respond — they know that for sure,” Rubio told CNN State of the Union host Jake Tapper on Sunday. “Then why would the White House leak it?”

“There’s only one reason why they leaked that,” the Republican lawmaker added. “And that means that if Israel responds, the White House can say, ‘We told them not to do it,’ and at least somehow appease these so-called peace activists.”
The Florida senator said the same people calling for an Israeli ‘ceasefire’ against Hamas terrorists in Gaza were the ones who launched the barrage of hundreds of rockets aimed at the Jewish state this weekend from Iran and their allies in the the Middle East.
Biden and his national security and defense team have stressed that support for Israel’s defense is “rock-solid” but have said US forces will not launch counterattacks against Iran after Tehran warned it would target US forces in retaliation.
Since Saturday, Iran launched at least 300 missiles, drones and other attacks on Israel, but most were intercepted and shot down before reaching the target country’s airspace.
If Israel launches a counterattack, President Biden has done everything he can to try to distance the US from such a response – including, Rubio claims, leaking his call to Netanyahu.
Iran and its regional allies sent an onslaught of at least 300 missiles, drones and other attacks against Israel on Saturday, April 15, 2024.
President Joe Biden and his National Security Team met in the White House Situation Room on Saturday amid an escalating conflict in the Middle East
“These ‘ceasefire now’ people who were there yesterday to cheer the launch of hundreds of rockets, drones and rockets against Israel; The people who applaud military attacks of this size and scope are not peace activists – these are anti-Semites, anti-Israel and pro-terrorist elements,” Rubio claimed.
“And we must stop calling them peace activists,” he continued. ‘They are not peace activists. You do not do that. Peace activists do not welcome mass attacks on other countries, as they did yesterday.’
“So I think this is part of the White House’s attempt to appease them by putting this out there so proactively.”
