SEN boss Craig Hutchison forced to step in as the feud between Matthew and Andrew Johns escalates

Radio boss forced to intervene as the bitter feud between Matthew and Andrew Johns continues to sour…with the latter stepping down for the ‘near future’ after an epic blast

  • Brothers argued about state of origin
  • Andrew was angry at the praise from Queensland
  • He has been cleaning Matty ever since

The feud between brothers Andrew and Matthew Johns has reached new heights as radio boss Craig Hutchison steps in to settle the fear.

The brothers got into a heated argument on Matty’s SEN Morning Glory radio show in mid-May and have not spoken to each other since.

Andrew accused his older sibling of showing support for Queensland ahead of the first State of Origin game in Adelaide.

‘Why don’t you put on your maroon sweater? I’m sure you’ve got some. Just because you’ve played four games and lost four doesn’t give you the right to criticize NSW,” Andrew said.

‘I’m sick of you [pumping up] Queensland. Keep blowing hot air up their asses.”

Matty Johns uses his trademark wit to sidestep the feud with his brother Andrew, who boycotted his radio show for two weeks in a row

Andrew Johnsis probably won’t be returning to his brother’s SEN radio show any time soon and would be very excited about the feud

The ongoing rivalry between the Johns brothers remains unresolved, with ‘Joey’ again not appearing on SEN Radio last Friday, the second consecutive week of his absence.

Ahead of the show, Matty, the older brother, expressed uncertainty about whether the former Premiership-winning Newcastle Knights captain would live up to his radio commitments.

“I’ll just keep the studio door open,” he told News Corp

Now a SEN source said Joey had pulled out “for the foreseeable future.”

Tension between Andrew and Matthew has been widely reported, with media outlets closely following their feud and some – including Test cricket legend Greg Chappell – suggesting the fight was all staged.

“People think it’s theater, but it’s not,” says a source close to the Johns brothers.

Joey has made it clear he’s not going back, at least not until after Origin. It’s pretty spicy.’

Hutchison has dealt with numerous conflicts with media personalities in the past and is committed to finding a solution.

“We love Joey and we love Matt,” he said. “They were a fantastic part of SEN 1170 on Friday morning.

“We respect Joey’s wish to focus on Origin at this time. We understand he has quite a bit on his plate. And I probably underestimated how excited he is.

“We look forward to sitting down with him after Origin and welcoming him with open arms.

“I’ll get them both together for a bite to eat and go from there.”

While Andrew has remained quiet about the feud, Matthew has provided updates including telling fans that calls to his brother on his birthday went unanswered.

Matthew has also taken inspiration from comedian Will Ferrell, who used his comedic talents to mock and taunt his brother.

An NRL Immortal, Andrew played most of his career for the Newcastle Knights, guiding them to two premiership victories and earning numerous accolades including two Dally M Medals for the league’s best player.

Andrew is widely regarded as one of the greatest rugby league players of all time.

Matthew, his older brother, played as a utility player and had successful stints with the Newcastle Knights and the Cronulla Sharks.

Both are currently enjoying popular stints as media personalities.
