A hiker has snapped a photo of a family of tourists at a scenic Australian landmark blocking an entire vantage point by setting up a picnic area complete with sun loungers.
The photo was shared online Monday and garnered more than 2,300 comments in less than a day.
“It’s a long weekend, so Wilson’s Promontory was very busy. Many people missed out on great photos and views because these people wanted it for themselves,” they wrote.
The national park is located in Victoria and encompasses a peninsula, the southernmost point of the Australian mainland.
Victorians were out in droves for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, with fair weather across most of the state.
The hiker said the national park was packed because of the holiday and many visitors were annoyed that the picnickers had taken over the entire vantage point
The post sparked debate over whether the family was genuinely selfish or if they were just oblivious to blocking the public lookout.
“I’ve seen this happen before. I went upstairs and took pictures. They then realized they were in the way, apologized, moved a little and we had a chat about the weather,” one wrote.
“People just do stupid things with no regard for other people,” they added.
“Just walk between all their seats and stare at the view for as long as you like, it’s not theirs,” said another.
“I would have just sat down and joined them,” a third added.
“I lived on Maui in Hawaii and this kind of behavior was constant by tourists,” said a fourth.
“Just rude,” added a fifth.
Wilson’s Promontory is a popular whale watching spot with southern right whales and humpback whales common in the area, along with seals, dolphins and even penguins.
