Selena Gomez’s Wizards of Waverly Place co-star gushes over actress ‘settling into herself’ amid Benny Blanco romance
Selena Gomez was praised by her Wizards of Waverly Place co-star David Henrie this week — ahead of the premiere of spinoff Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.
The 32-year-old actress, who reunites with Henrie, 35, on the series, is currently in a relationship with music producer Benny Blanco. Her co-star is very proud of her “learning about herself” as she gets older.
He told People: ‘She’s become more and more mature. She’s really getting used to herself and her own life and is really owning her life.
He added: ‘It’s wonderful to see her developing into a beautiful woman.’
Henrie played Gomez’s brother Justin Russo on the original series, which aired from 2007 to 2012. Gomez will reprise her role as Alex Russo in the pilot episode, with both stars also serving as executive producers.

Henrie said: ‘To be able to pass the magic wand on to a whole new generation, while also giving a big, warm hug to our OG fans, is a dream come true for both of us.’
Gomez and Blanco’s romance was confirmed in December 2023 and since then the two have been sharing snippets of their relationship on social media.
The music producer has also previously stated that having children is his “next goal.” The Howard Stern Show in may.
At one point, Stern said he predicted they would get married in the future, to which Blanco responded, “You and me both…I’ve got to get my life together!”
Stern also asked, “When are you going to propose? You need to announce it now. When are you going to propose to your famous friend Selena?”
And Blanco replied, “When I look at her… I always think, I don’t know any world where it could be better than this.”
He continued, “People always said to me, ‘When you meet your best friend, she’s my best friend,'” adding that Selena is “the coolest, kindest, sweetest…”
Elsewhere in the interview, the songwriter spoke about his desire for a family in the future. ‘That’s my next goal on the box. I have a lot of God kids, I have a lot of nephews. It’s my thing, I love being around kids!’
He told People: ‘She’s just become more and more mature. She’s really settling into herself and her own life and really owning her life.’

Gomez recently announced that she cannot have children due to health problems.
“I’ve never said this before, but unfortunately I can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s life at risk. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
Selena did, however, say she still wants to be a mother someday. “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it would happen for everyone else.”
“I’m in a much better place. I feel blessed that there are wonderful people out there who are willing to do surrogacy or adoption, both of which are huge opportunities for me.”
The actress added: “It made me really grateful that there are other outlets for people who want to be mothers. I’m one of those people. I’m excited about what that journey will look like, but it’s going to look a little different.”
And whether she becomes a mother through surrogacy or adoption, Selena said the child will still be hers.
“At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’s going to be mine. It’s going to be my baby,” the Wolves singer told Vanity Fair.
