Nathan Cleary has set his fans’ tongues wagging by posting a single photo of his girlfriend Mary Fowler in his latest off-season holiday album – but that didn’t stop a cheeky hint about the couple’s engagement from popping up on his Instagram .
The NRL superstar’s post on Saturday night was his second photo album showing his incredible breakthrough since winning the grand final – but once again Fowler was nowhere to be seen in the photos of Cleary having a blast in New York City with a couple of friends.
Her negligence caused fans to post comments like “We need more Mary,” “Is that Mary on the scooter?” and ‘Heading to Britain? There’s something about Mary’, while others posted GIFs of the Manchester City and Matildas ace looking confused.
But Cleary’s Penrith Panthers teammate Brian To’o took the cake with a cheeky response: “My man” with a football emoji – and a diamond engagement ring emoji.

The 26-year-old has had a blast since playing a starring role in his team’s thrilling grand final win over the Broncos, partying in Bali, visiting the spring racing carnival in Australia and attending a beautiful oceanside wedding.
And of course he flew to Perth to support Fowler as she played in the Matildas Olympic qualifiers – where the romance became the country’s biggest sporting story when Ny Breaking Australia exclusively revealed the shirtless halfback enjoyed some tender moments with the football ace in a park on October 31.
Social media exploded with memes about them dating before the couple said goodbye at Perth airport as they flew back to England to play in the Women’s Super League.
Last week, Cleary’s first holiday album of the off-season showed him relaxing poolside in front of a spectacular sunset, recovering from the knee injury he suffered in the grand final and partying at a nightclub with his friends Ben Mercer and Reece Iaria.
His slideshow then shifted to him enjoying a beer at a beautiful oceanfront wedding, going to the Spring Carnival race with two friends, admiring a sunset on an Aussie beach and resting in what appears to be a hotel in the tropics.

The halfback’s followers were unimpressed by Fowler’s omission from the photo album, hitting him with comments such as ‘we need Fowler content’ and ‘Mary didn’t copy an article’.
Cleary’s latest Instagram post focuses entirely on New York, in which he poses in front of the Brooklyn Bridge, admiring the view from the top of the Empire State Building while riding a scooter in Central Park.
The 26-year-old also enjoyed a nighttime helicopter flight over Manhattan and saw UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden.
While Fowler will play for City until their season ends on May 18 next year, her boyfriend is due back at pre-season training for the Panthers on December 8.

The couple could reunite when Fowler returns to Australia for a fan event with her Matildas teammates Alanna Kennedy and Mackenzie Arnold on December 21 at Sydney’s CommBank Stadium, half an hour’s drive from Cleary’s home in Penrith.
To’o’s cheeky response isn’t the first time one of Cleary’s teammates has indulged in good-natured banter about his romance with Fowler.
