See the shocking moment Cam Norrie loses his cool and hits a fan with his racquet – as the supporter has a very unexpected reaction

Cameron Norrie was defeated in straight sets at the ASB Classic in New Zealand on Tuesday, but appeared to throw his racket in the air in a fit of anger before it hit a spectator.

The moment came before the British star suffered a 6-2, 6-3 defeat to Facundo Diaz, with his racket spinning out of control and landing in the crowd behind the baseline.

The 29-year-old, who travels to Australia for the Grand Slam in Melbourne next week, was given a warning by the chair umpire, while none of the spectators were injured in the incident.

After the defeat, Norrie made a tentative apology, telling reporters that it had served as a wake-up call, before revealing that the patron he hit had given an unexpected reaction in response to being hit by his racket.

“I just said sorry and she laughed,” the Brit explained the situation.

“I said, ‘I’m sorry, that wasn’t my intention.’ And she said, “Yes, I’m totally fine.”

“And she was enjoying her champagne or whatever [so] no problem, but as you’ve seen with some other players, you can easily default if they get caught in the wrong spot or if they’re not looking or something.

‘I didn’t mean to do that and it’s not my fault at all. To do something like that, I apologized very quickly and I want to apologize in general. “I’m not happy with how I behaved,” he added.

In a separate statement, Norrie revealed that his frustrations stemmed from issues with his timing.

“I missed the ball a lot… I’m disappointed in my attitude, I couldn’t find the ball at all,” he said.

Norrie was seen speaking to the lady after the incident took place and said he had apologised.

‘I’m disappointed in my attitude, I couldn’t find the ball at all. I apologized to the woman, and she was fine. It barely touched her and she laughed. But that wasn’t my intention.’
