See the proof that State of Origin night is one of the busiest times of the year for Sydney’s cocaine dealers
- Sydney is Australia’s largest cocaine market
- Dealers expect a peak in demand mid-week
- The drug is sold in NSW capital for $300 to $350 per gram
A text message obtained by Ny Breaking Australia shows cocaine dealers in Sydney are stepping up their activities on State of Origin night to take advantage of footy fans who like to watch the match under the influence of something other than alcohol.
Last year, an Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission investigation found that Sydney is the country’s largest coke market, with the drug costing anywhere from $300 to $350 per gram.
Having a driver deliver cocaine is a popular way to purchase the drug. Many dealers communicate with customers via encrypted messaging services such as WhatsApp.

In the message obtained by Ny Breaking Australia, the dealer specifically mentions the first game of the 2024 Origin series, which was held in Sydney on Wednesday evening.
“ORIGIN NIGHT #GOTHEBLUES,” the post begins.
‘Driver on from 2pm to 1am! Order now, new batch.
‘PURE PERUVIAN PRINCESS, AAA GRADE, STRAIGHT FROM THE ROCK, ALL PURE.
‘Do not miss it. Order now! 300$ per bag.’
The text also includes a pool eight-ball emoji, as eight-ball is slang for one-eighth of an ounce of the drug, or about 3.5 grams.

Last year, Ny Breaking Australia saw other reports of dealers offering discounts to customers to take advantage of increased demand when NSW played Queensland.
‘Hi Hi! Send a text message tonight to confirm,” said a message received in May ahead of the first game of the series.
‘Last night at 200 each back to normal after tonight xx up the blues!!’
The same dealer marketed discounts in June ahead of Game 2 while supporting his team.
‘Origin deals for tonight’s match, message to see the f**ken blues!!’
At Origin games (action from Wednesday night’s clash, pictured), around half the population breaks their weekly routine with a few drinks – while some fans prefer something stronger. Ny Breaking Australia does not conclude that the persons depicted are involved in the illegal drug trade
The current cost of cola in Sydney – from $300 to $350 per gram – has fallen after the Covid epidemic saw it rise to $450
Ny Breaking Australia also spotted text messages from another dealer ahead of game three at Sydney’s Accord Stadium, entitled ‘State of Origin Specials’.
‘Don’t miss it… the larger the order, the bigger the discount. Buy four and get one free. PS: Go to the Blues.’
The current price of coke in Sydney has fallen since peaking at more than $450 per gram during the Covid pandemic.
An annual report by the New South Wales Crime Commission shows the cost of importing the drug has risen to a staggering wholesale price of $200,000 per kilo, with border closures hampering international drug smuggling and driving up the price.
Australia and New Zealand have long been seen as fertile markets for cocaine profits, with residents willing to pay higher prices than anywhere else in the world for cocaine.
