See the incredible ‘time capsule’ unearthed after wallet stolen from woman in 1977 was returned to her
A North Dakota woman’s stolen wallet was returned in perfect condition 47 years later, creating a time capsule of her life in 1977.
Darlene Abel was pregnant and working as a hair stylist at a Minot salon when her wallet was stolen.
Nearly fifty years later, plumbers working on the building where Abel worked discovered her missing belongings in the ceiling.
The wallet remained frozen in time and contained Abel’s family photos, credit cards, coupons and other important cards.
“It was like walking through history, you know, looking at my wallet and my pictures and my cards; and it was a lot of fun,” Abel said. KFYR.

Abel says she didn’t report the matter to the police at the time because she didn’t think there was anything in her wallet worth getting anyone into trouble with.
“It wasn’t that big of a deal because I didn’t have that much money in it or anything. I don’t think they got maybe $10-12 if they were lucky,” she said.
The crew was able to track down Abel because she still lives at the address listed on her 1977 driver’s license.
‘I remember the shirt I wore then [driver’s license] photo. It was a great shirt,’ Abel said.
Abel went through her things and found an expired library card, coupons, loyalty cards, credit cards, business cards, an uncashed check, and appointment reminders.
It also contained valuable photographs, including one of her daughter who died a few months before her wallet was stolen.
“There’s a lot of history here. There were a lot of pictures of people who are very dear to me,” she said.

Earlier this year, a man in Michigan found a time capsule from over 100 years ago in the ceiling of his home.
Jesse Leitch of Grand Rapids made the surprising discovery when contractors came to install new pipes after he was having heating problems in his home.
While the workers were busy ‘cutting into the ceiling above the bathroom’, they came across a lot of items left behind by the previous occupants, all of which were over a century old.
Among the items left behind were a newspaper from 1913 and a business card from a local music store. After some research, he discovered that it had closed in 1907.
In addition, there was a handwritten letter from someone named Gertrude to someone else named Ruth.
