Two terrorists were killed when Indian troops, in a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police, foiled an infiltration attempt in Machil sector of Kupwara district, the Army said in a statement on Saturday evening.
During a search of the area after the intelligence-led operation, the troops recovered the bodies of the two terrorists and two AK series rifles along with ammunition were also recovered, the army further said.
According to the press release, inputs have been received from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army and various intelligence agencies regarding infiltration attempts by a group of two to four terrorists in Macchal sector in Kupwara.
“A joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and the JKP in Gucchi Nar general area in Machil sector on the night of September 29-30. Multiple ambushes were set up in front of their own side of the LOC fence,” the statement said.
On September 30 at 10.40 pm, the ambush party noticed the movement of two terrorists from the Pakistani side and saw them approaching the Line of Control fence, the statement said.
“The ambush party maintained complete tactical surprise and engaged in firefights where terrorists attempted to flee across the LOC under cover of dense foliage, but the firefight resulted in the immediate death of one terrorist. Later, during the ensuing gunfight, the second terrorist was also killed. neutralized,” it added.
“The bodies of two terrorists were recovered during a search in the area,” the statement said.
On further search, two AK series rifles, ninety AK ammunition, one pistol, two hand grenades, Pakistani currency notes worth 2,100, winter clothes, medicines and other war supplies were also recovered, the statement said.
“The operation is ongoing,” the army added in its press release.
