Security rush on stage as The Weeknd is grabbed by concertgoer during Melbourne show

The Weeknd was attacked by a concertgoer while performing in Melbourne on Saturday evening.

The Canadian singer, 34, was about an hour into the show when the stage intruder climbed onto the stage and tried to hug him.

The superstar was seen turning away from the concertgoer before security jumped onto the stage.

The person was eventually led away before The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, continued his show.

The stage invader, who calls himself ‘Pajama Man’, wore red shorts and a red T-shirt with a print of the Ukrainian flag and the word ‘free’ on it.

The ‘prankster’, who also calls himself the ‘CEO of trolling’, shared the footage on Instagram and wrote: ‘It was cool talking to you while I was on stage.’

But many of The Weeknd’s fans flooded Pajama Man’s comments with negative comments.

One opponent wrote “Cringe Button,” followed by an arrow pointing to the comment’s like button.

Another said: ‘I’m so baffled that this is what someone specifically does for negative attention on social media.’

“Get a job,” someone else wrote, while another Instagram user echoed the sentiment: “Bruh, get a job.”

“Get help,” another advised, while someone else commented: “You suck, mate.”

“He straight up cringed when you ran up, that wasn’t cool, bro. Still, it’s pretty amazing that you got there,” another commenter wrote.

The Melbourne show comes after the singer faced backlash after canceling his tour last year, only to return with fewer dates.

The Weeknd initially postponed his Australia tour last November, just weeks after kicking off.

The tour was eventually canceled and all tickets sold were refunded.

The singer made the new tour announcement on Instagram in August.

“AUSTRALIA, I haven’t forgotten you, see you in October,” The Hills hitmaker captioned the post.

While many welcomed the rescheduled dates, some fans have slammed Brisbane and New Zealand, which were originally scheduled for shows.

“Australia, I have not forgotten you, you have very much forgotten Brisbane and New Zealand,” one angry fan wrote on Instagram.

Another expressed his displeasure with: ‘Are you serious, what on earth happened to Brisbane when he was honestly screwing us on this point.’

One concerned concertgoer added that they were reluctant to buy tickets given the tour’s Down Under history, adding that the decision to snub Brisbane was ‘crazy’.

“Okay, that’s not possible,” they wrote.

“I bought tickets last year, waited for the show to be rescheduled, got my money back when the show was cancelled, but now you come back and don’t do a show in Brisbane. Crazy.’
