Security policies are needed for safe AI adoption, security leaders say
- Suyrvey notes that generative AI is being used more than ever in the field of cybersecurity
- Security leaders overwhelmingly prefer GenAI over platforms
- For most, the benefits do not yet outweigh the risks
New research shows that cybersecurity leaders are not yet ready to adopt AI as a point solution, with 80% of respondents preferring GenAI delivered through cybersecurity platforms.
The CrowdStrike 2024 State of AI in Cybersecurity Survey found that there are mixed feelings about AI regarding security and privacy controls, especially since generative AI is still in its infancy and in its current form poses significant security risks.
Top concerns for security leaders include the exposure of sensitive data to underlying large language models, adversarial attacks on GenAI tools, and GenAI’s propensity for hallucinations, in addition to concerns about the lack of guardrails in GenAI tools and insufficient regulations around public policy.
For security experts, by security experts
Critically, security leaders are taking steps to ensure policy frameworks are used responsibly, and 87% of respondents have implemented new security policies or are developing policies to govern AI adoption.
Do the risks outweigh the benefits? Not really. While 39% of cybersecurity experts think the benefits outweigh the risks, 40% think they are similar, and 21% think the dangers outweigh the benefits.
Not surprisingly, security professionals believe GenAI should be built specifically for cybersecurity, with 76% of respondents preferring purpose-built tools over generic, one-size-fits-all solutions.
This is reflected in the top purchasing factors for IT workers, with the ability to improve an organization’s response and attack detection being the top priority, along with operational efficiency, and mitigating the impact of the IT shortage. skills.
As generative AI evolves, so does the cyber landscape. GenAI is increasingly being used in threat detection and automated security solutions, with most organizations optimistic about the future of AI in cybersecurity.
