Security forces on Tuesday busted a major underground terrorist den in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district and seized a large quantity of daily necessities and ammunition, officials said.

The well-built hideout was discovered during a cordon and search operation by a joint force of police, army and CRPF in the Sagrawat forest in the Darhal area of the border district, the officials said.

A police spokesman said the underground shelter had been covered with earth for camouflage.

He said that during the search of the shelter, four cooking gas cylinders, six empty AK rifle magazines, one pistol magazine with 13 rounds, one INSAS rifle magazine with 19 rounds, one communication set, one sun lamp with plate, one pair of gloves and wheat flour were found.

Other items seized from the den included dried fruits, five- and two-litre cooking stoves, 30 pencils, two blankets, three bags, a 40-litre water jug, three power banks, one data cable, one adapter, a pair of shoes, one wire cutter, one screwdriver, one lunch box, one body warmer set, six handles, two flashlights, one packet of washing powder, several sachets of powdered milk and other eatables, the spokesperson said.

However, officials said no one was arrested during the ongoing operation as the terrorists using the hideout managed to escape before the search could begin.

They said security forces also busted a cave hideout in Balotha area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district during an ongoing anti-terrorist operation.

According to authorities, some food items were found in the abandoned shelter.

The search operation in Basantgarh was intensified on Monday after terrorists opened fire on a joint patrol of the CRPF and police, killing an inspector of the paramilitary force.
