Security forces have recovered a huge cache of explosives, including 21 large and medium IEDs, from Senam village in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district, police said on Wednesday.

The explosives were found as the northeastern state, which has been hit by ethnic clashes since May 2023, witnessed escalating violence from early last month when drone strikes by militants were reported.

About the recovery, police said in a statement that they recovered 10 large improvised explosive devices, 11 medium IEDs, 42 country-made grenades, seven No.36 hand grenades, two Chinese grenades and 34 petrol bombs, among other items.

Besides, one country-made Lathode pistol, a rifle and pistol, two Pompi guns and detonators were recovered.

Since May last year, more than 200 people have been killed and thousands left homeless in ethnic violence between Meiteis in the Imphal Valley and the neighboring hill Kukis.
