He has already committed himself to the Hollywood blockbuster Tenet and drastically overhauled his physique for the action comedy Bullet Train.

But now Aaron Taylor-Johnson faces another huge challenge: turning into James Bond.

The 33-year-old is rumored to have been formally given the job to replace Daniel Craig as 007, beating out a star-studded list of contenders Idris Elba, Tom Hardy and Henry Cavil.

Taylor-Johnson’s personal trainer Matt Hodges has now shared a fascinating insight into how the Bond-to-be could pull himself up for MI6 service – and the advice could apply to other men too.

Speaking to Men’s Health, Mr Hodges, who previously worked in fitness modelling, said he would recommend a three-month weightlifting regime for someone with a body like Taylor-Johnson’s.

“Sixteen weeks is what I would call a minimum to get to a decent size,” Mr. Hodges said Men’s health.

For the actor, who has been building his strong frame for years, the personal trainer suggests a mix of weighted squats, lunges and pull-ups.

Mr. Hodges recommends doing four to six repetitions of the following exercises, with a two-minute rest between sets:

  1. Goblet squats. To do this, Mr. Hodges says to grab a heavy kettlebell or dumbbell and hold the weight across your chest before squatting with your feet shoulder-width apart and your back straight.
  2. Standing military press. This involves using dumbbells or barbells, starting by resting them at shoulder height and pushing the weights above your head so that your arms are fully extended, and repeat.
  3. Stretch pulls. This is similar to a deadlift, but starts on the rack instead of the floor, Mr. Hodges tells Men’s Health. Starting with your feet shoulder-width apart, shoulders back, stand tall and lift the weight with a slight bend at the knees.
  4. Dead-hang pull-ups. This move involves grabbing a bar overhead with your palms facing you, lifting your weight off the floor and hanging.
  5. Barbell forward lunges. Finish by doing 10 forward lunges with a dumbbell and remaining in a ski seat for a minute. In the ski sit you stand with your back against the wall and squat as if you were sitting in an invisible chair.

However, building muscle hasn’t always been the goal of Taylor-Johnson’s acting roles. The self-proclaimed feminist, who has grown kale and pumpkins, previously enjoyed film success as weed hero Dave Lizewski in the comedy Kick-Ass.

While filming Bullet Train with Brad Pitt, released in 2022, Taylor-Johnson followed the keto diet to get lean.

The ketogenic diet, also known as the keto diet, involves cutting out almost all carbohydrates and adding a large amount of fat and protein to each meal.

As a result, bread, rice and pasta are completely excluded, as are sweets, chocolate and pastries. Even dairy, fruits and vegetables are limited.

The diet aims to force the body to burn fat for energy instead of glucose – a process known as ketosis.

But instead of a no-carb diet plan, Mr. Hodges recommends a balanced diet that will provide plenty of fuel for a weight-lifting gym routine. He suggests increasing protein and carbs if you want to build muscle.

Taylor-Johnson, who played a hitman, admitted he got “all skinny and skinny” for the role.

He claimed that he fainted during a fight scene because it caused him to have low blood sugar.

In response to last week’s Bond rumors, Taylor-Johnson made a non-denial statement: “I think it’s charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I consider it a great compliment.’
