Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to China this weekend as President Joe Biden’s administration tries to move past the effects of the spy balloon and restore relations with Beijing.
Blinken becomes the highest-ranking U.S. official to visit China since Biden took office.
He was originally scheduled to visit earlier this year, but that was canceled after the discovery and downing of a Chinese spy balloon hovering over the United States.

The foreign ministry said Blinken had spoken with his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Qin Gang, on Tuesday evening to confirm his trip, which will begin on Sunday.
