Detectives charged a 21-year-old man from Narre Warren earlier this week with assault, causing deliberate injury and assault by kicking.

A second man, a 29-year-old from Narre Warren, has also been charged with arguing.

Both were released on bail in October to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court.

The North Melbourne Football Club confirmed that Ziebell’s facial surgery was a success and he was on the road to recovery.

He made 280 appearances for the Kangaroos and captained the club for six years.

Ziebell left the AFL on Saturday, with Richmond legends Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt also retired in the same game the Tigers won by 29 points.
