Sebastian Haller shows off new boots with a tag reading ‘f*** cancer’ as the striker prepares to make his Borussia Dortmund debut against Augsburg, just six months after he was diagnosed with a testicular tumor.

Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastian Haller has revealed a new pair of boots with the word ‘f*** cancer’ written on them.

The 28-year-old was diagnosed with a testicular tumor shortly after signing for the German club last summer, and was only able to return to full-time training this month.

He made his first Dortmund appearance in a friendly against Fortuna Düsseldorf on 10 December before scoring a quick hat trick in another friendly against Basel.

Haller now looks set to make his first competitive appearance for the club when they take on Augsburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, and he has unveiled a new pair of boots to mark the battle that has been kept out of football for the last six months.

The message ‘f*** cancer’ comes on a pair of orange Puma boots, and the maker posted a photo of them with the caption ‘best comeback of the year already’.

It’s been a remarkable recovery for Haller, who joined from Ajax for £31m in July, but he fell badly in training only two weeks later and medical tests confirmed that he had a tumor.

Haller had to undergo chemotherapy and two operations in the last months of 2022, but he has never given up hope of returning to the courts.

speaking to the athletic Ahead of his recent return to action, the former West Ham striker said: “I want to play as quickly as possible.” There are no limits or restrictions on my participation unless the medical staff tells me otherwise.’

‘Now I can do everything I used to do before, that gives me a lot of confidence. I only took 19 days off in the six months. It was hard, but it’s my job and I love it.’

“(Retiring) was never on my mind, I had the mentality to look ahead and take the day at that point. It was more difficult for my family, they suffered a lot because they didn’t feel in control. They helped me a lot.

In his prime, the striker scored 47 goals in 66 Ajax games. Dortmund hope they can replicate that form in the Bundesliga as they look to improve on their current seventh position.
