The incident occurred in the Jumpinpin Channel on North Stradbroke Island, which separates the island from South Stradbroke Island, at around 12:11 p.m. Thursday.
Reports said the seaplane crashed on takeoff in the water when emergency services arrived on the scene.

Two passengers reportedly made it back to shore without help and were evaluated by paramedics, who said they were not injured.
The Queensland Ambulance is transporting the couple from the accident back to the mainland.
Since then, the seaplane has been taken out of the water.
The area is popular with Australia Day revelers on boats coming in from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
