Sean Paul fans were stunned Wednesday when they realized they had been mis-singing his lyrics for years.

The Jamaican rapper, 49, recently revealed that he doesn’t actually call himself ‘Sean da Paul’ as allegedly heard on several of his hits, including 2002’s Get Busy.

In the final moments of a video documenting the song’s history in Vice YouTubeSean explains that he is actually referencing cricket icon Shivnarine Chanderpaul, whose name sounds very similar to the star’s.

And with several fans believing that he actually says his own name in the song, many expressed shock that he was wrong all this time, with one even commenting, ‘I’ve been living a lie for 20 years!

Talking about the inspiration behind using the cricketer’s name, which Sean mistakenly says is from Trinidad but is actually from Guyana, Sean explains: “There is a famous cricketer in the Caribbean named Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

“Everyone was like ‘Sean da Paul’ and that name stuck.

“Then I started saying it on the shows and I met the Chanderpaul guy years later and he said ‘Me!’ But yeah, big Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

And while many people were unaware of the connection, some fans have finally confirmed a theory they’ve believed for years.

One Twitter user and cricket fan tweeted in 2017: “Fact: I used to think Sean Paul was yelling at Chanderpaul at the beginning of every song in some weird tribute to the Cricketer.”

And on Thursday, she realized she’d been right all along when she shared a clip of Sean’s explanation along with the caption: “OMG.”

When followers rushed to comment on his theory, he quipped: “It could be the biggest reveal of 2022.”

With news spreading about the truth of the lyrics, others were quick to express their surprise, with one sharing, “OMG I had no idea.”

Another tweeted: “This literally changes my life,” and a third said: “This has made my day.”

It is true! While many people were unaware of the connection, some fans have finally confirmed a theory they’ve believed for years, with one user shocked after his 2017 tweet.

This isn’t the only surprising revelation the Gimme The Light hitmaker has made this year.

Sean revealed in August that, like many others, he’s also picked up a new hobby in lockdown, and is now a very keen gardener.

The hitmaker admitted that he has quite a few green fingers and has even released his own Scotch Bonnet pepper sauce, named after his latest album, Scorcha.

speaking to Sun about his new company, he explained: ‘I do gardening. I have a small patch ready in my garden and have planted eggplant, tomatoes, lettuce, pak choi and also sweet peppers and scotch bonnet peppers.

‘The bonnets are still bearing fruit, and I picked up about 60 of them yesterday. When I’m on tour I have people who take care of me.

I have so many that I am starting my own pepper sauce, called Scorcha. It will be available near the end of the year.
