Who says Augusta is tough?! Seamus Power shoots TWO consecutive holes-in-one during the iconic par-three match at the Masters in incredible pre-tournament scenes
Ireland’s Seamus Power made an amazing back-to-back hole-in-one during the par-three match leading up to the 87th Masters.
Power cocked his tee shot on eighth back into the hole for an ace and amazingly repeated this feat moments later on last on Augusta National’s newly renovated layout.
The world number 34 is the third player to make consecutive aces in the traditional curtain raiser, joining Claude Harmon (1968) and Toshi Izawa (2002).
Since the event’s inception in 1960, no one has become par-three and Masters champion in the same week.
The 36-year-old Power heads to the first Major of the year looking for form after missing the cut at the Sawgrass for the Players Championship last month and at the Arnold Palmer Championship.
Ireland’s Seamus Power surprisingly made back-to-back holes-in-one at Augusta on Wednesday
Power was playing the iconic par-three competition when he made a piece of history
Prior to that, he racked up seven consecutive top 25 finishes and won the Bermuda Championship last October.
This week is Power’s second appearance in Augusta – last year he finished a respectable 27th in his first-ever Masters.
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler also hit a hole-in-one in bizarre circumstances, the world number one’s tee shot on the ninth plummeting straight into the cup after he and his playing partners Tom Kim and Sam Burns were teed off at the same time.
Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson’s hole-in-one on fourth and one by Tom Hoge on eighth brought the total number of aces in the history of the match to 107.
Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are the two favorites for the tournament this week. For McIlroy, a Masters title is the only Major title that eludes him in his career.
