When we last left Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson), Silo Season 1, she discovered a truth she’d fought long and hard for — even if it wasn’t the truth she expected. And now, based on the glimpses of Season 2 we got at San Diego Comic-Con, it looks like the whole world is bigger than she ever knew. And thank goodness we don’t have to wait too much longer to find out.
(Editorial note: The rest of this post contains spoilers so we can tell you what season 2 will bring without having to be vague like the intro.)
As you may recall (or are just ready to spill the beans), Juliette spent much of Season 1 trying to figure out why the powers that be in the silo were so shady. She discovered the truth — they were covering up the fact that the outside camera showing the state of the world was a lie, and she called an audible and chose to leave the silo to find proof. Once there, she discovered that she was right about the outside camera being fake, except that the outside world was actually a lot more worse than the camera showed, and the silo’s top leadership tried to give hope to the people in the silo.
On the positive side, she finds something incredible: there are more silos, more than just her own. It’s a hell of a promise, and according to the SDCC panel, the first episode will begin with Ferguson’s Juliette alone in the wasteland. But the second episode will return us to Juliette’s home silo, setting the stage for the split storylines we’ll get throughout the new season.
SDCC audiences also got to see a clip from the Season 2 premiere, in which Juliette lands at a dead silo before having to build a ladder to cross a rickety bridge. Once she crosses, Juliette finds a locked door… with a man behind it threatening to kill her if she opens it.
And that brings us to the biggest news out of Comic-Con: Steve Zahn is joining the cast of Season 2! As a key character in the book Solo. He described the character as “a middle-aged 10-year-old” (which is actually a fitting description of Zahn’s type).
If you have read the novels of Hugh Howey Silo is based on, you know there’s still a lot to discover. But with this first look at season 2, Silo seems like it’s only just begun.
Silo returns to Apple TV Plus on November 15.
